Playing

I love creating fun, engaging, hands-on resources along with practical activities and literacy games to reinforce key skills and foster a love of literacy.

Targets & Goals

I carry out an initial assessment to discover those areas where children need the most support. The skills they develop will boost their confidence in the classroom and in their Year 6 SATs.

Testimonials

I can highly recommend tutoring with Kate. She brings high quality expertise developed over years of experiences in a range of settings and with a range of children.

Dr Fay Lewis

Programme Leader- MA Education, UWE Bristol
Kate has revolutionised the Literacy offering with her innovative games and activities which are all very much subject based. Students who find engaging with Literacy difficult can happily spend a whole hour engaged in activities solely based on literacy needs without complaint. Kate's kind and caring nature makes her an ideal Tutor for the Y7/8 cohort and they have thrived in her sessions

Kristina Mills

Lead Literacy Tutor & EAL Co-ordinator, Oldfield School
Kate is incredibly knowledgeable regarding childcare and the early years, she understands the importance of treating each child uniquely and is focused on allowing them to grow and develop their self esteem. She is amazingly empathetic, kind, caring and supportive; understanding all the needs, challenges and worries of the individual child as well building on and bringing forward their abilities and achievements.

contact_support Frequently asked questions

If your question is not answered below then please drop me an email and I will get back to you!

Sessions will start with a practical activity to reinforce the previous week’s learning. Teaching and practise of skills will follow, based on the Key Objectives for the year group and focussing on any areas of weakness highlighted by myself, parents or school teachers. Sessions will end with a game to consolidate key teaching points.

A quick email will be sent after each session so parents will know what has been covered. In addition to this, I am always happy to answer any questions regarding a student's progress.

Lessons take place in my garden office, a quiet and peaceful space at the end of the garden. The entrance to the office is through the garden gate, on the lane behind my house. There is a park opposite which is perfect for younger siblings! We are also a 10-minute walk from Victoria Park, and 5 minutes from the shops and cafes on Chelsea Road.

Sessions will follow the BANES school calendar, so the number of lessons per term will depend on the length of the school term. Lessons can be arranged in school holidays on request.

Parking is available in a designated space in the lane behind my house. Alternatively, parking is available on Locksbrook Road if preferred; I can provide a visitor permit on request.

Invoices will be sent at the beginning of each term, with the preferred payment method being a bank transfer. Lessons will be charged @£35 per hour.
